We use AI because it makes careful work faster and cheaper. We don’t use it to make the decisions a licensed professional is responsible for.
What our software does
- Answers your questions, any time. The ScrubJay assistant explains the process and the prices, and tells you it’s an AI at the start of every conversation.
- Guides you through IRS authorization. It walks you through approving our access in your own IRS Online Account.
- Pulls and reads your IRS records. With your authorization, it retrieves your IRS transcripts and finds unfiled years, balances, deadlines and collection activity.
- Organizes the work. It tells you which documents we need and why, reads what you upload, and keeps your case timeline up to date.
What licensed people do
- A PTIN-holding tax preparer prepares, reviews and signs every return. No return is filed without that signature.
- An Enrolled Agent decides how to resolve what you owe. They choose between options like a payment plan, Currently Not Collectible status or an Offer in Compromise, sign the request, and speak to the IRS for you.
- A person takes over whenever you ask, and right away if a levy is active, you mention bankruptcy or a criminal investigation, or the case is outside what we handle.
The rules we hold ourselves to
- Nothing reaches the IRS without a licensed signature. There is no automatic path from software to the IRS.
- Tax math comes from professional tax software and written rules, not from an AI language model.
- The assistant never promises an outcome or a settlement amount. The IRS decides.
- Your data needs your consent. Tax information goes to an AI service only after you’ve signed the consent the law requires for that use.
- We keep a record. Every review, approval and submission on your case is logged.
Tax professionals stay fully responsible for work done with AI under IRS rules, and firms that use AI need written policies. Ours is public: read our AI policy.
